A new church between groves and port arthur
Charter members were looking to organize a new church for the area between Groves and Port Arthur.
Baptist tent Revival
Friendship Baptist Church began as a Baptist tent revival more than 65 years ago, on October 7, 1951. Charter members were looking to organize a new church for the area between Groves and Port Arthur.
A "cow shed"
When originally purchased, Friendship’s land had a 2-bedroom house and a “cow shed.” Wednesday night meetings, Vacation Bible School and Night Watch were all held in the cow shed.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the original church sanctuary was held July 31, 1952.
THE ORIGINAL BUILDING
The original building was erected between 1952-53. A great accomplishment!
The church opened a Kindergarten in September of 1966 under the direction of Mrs. Peggy Morgan. The school had 141 students between 1966-73.
"Burn the note"
On the 20th anniversary in 1971 the church gathered to “Burn the Note” celebrating paying off the original building mortgage.
BREAKING MORE GROUND
The Groundbreaking ceremony for the new sanctuary was held August 6, 1972, followed by a dedication service for the new sanctuary on May 19, 1973.
